ACC OSHA Alliance Highlights Commitment to Keeping Workers Safe During “Safe and Sound Week”

ACC is excited to highlight our commitment to workplace
safety by promoting the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)’s Safe + Sound Week during August 12-18,
2019. Safe + Sound Week is “a nationwide event held each August that recognizes
the successes of workplace health and safety programs.”

The official OSHA website on Safe + Sound Week offers
information and ideas on how to keep workers safe. ACC encourages employers and
workers to focus on health and safety programs through OSHA’s three core
elements- management leadership, worker participation and finding and fixing
hazards. Some examples include:

  • When management leadership is sincere and is
supported by actions, workers know that safety and health are important to success.
Top management can demonstrate its commitment to safety through leading by example, practicing safe behaviors and having safety be a
    topic of daily conversations.
  • Workers can
participate in establishing successful health and safety programs in many ways,
including documenting safe work practices and conducting site inspections and
incident investigations. When workers are involved in finding new methods for
safety, they feel invested in the program.
  • Workplaces are always evolving as new
technologies, processes, materials, and workers are introduced. Taking a
proactive approach in finding and fixing hazards help businesses stay on top of
emerging hazards that could lead to injury or illness.

Industry is Committed
to Being Safe and Sound!

ACC is committed to promoting a healthy, safe and sound
workplace. ACC has formed a voluntary Alliance with OSHA to provide members,
occupational physicians, stakeholders, and others operating with diisocyanate
chemicals along the polyurethanes value chain with information, guidance, and
access to training resources that will help them further protect the health and
safety of workers. Three groups from ACC are leading the work with OSHA: Center
for the Polyurethane Industry (CPI), Diisocyanates Panel (DII) and the Aliphatic
Diisocyanates Panels (ADI).  Together,
we’re committed to continuing to foster safe and more healthful American
workplaces.  To learn more about this
Alliance, click

In addition, CPI,
ADI
and DII
all have substantial resource libraries with sources of information about
safety and product stewardship, including guidance materials on general
polyurethane product safety, worker protection, waste disposal, transportation
guidelines, industrial hygiene and regulatory compliance.
